Baby Crib Buying Guide

Your baby’s crib will be the most important piece of furniture you will need to buy. The baby will be sleeping in this bed for 2 to 3 years so you want to have a good one. Make sure you are happy with the style, color, finish, quality and overall safety. Today there are many different cribs with many different options to choose from.
When choosing a baby crib, you need to first decide what your price range is and which features are most important to you.

There are many different style baby cribs:
1- Standard- two different types, one with a single dropping side and one with double dropping sides.
2- Convertible- These converts from a crib to toddler bed and to a full size bed.
3- Canopy- This crib has posts on all corner with fabric draped on top.
4- Round- Round shaped with a single dropping side.

The feature of the drops sides might be considered most often. Sides can come fixed, single-drop or double drop. Fixed sides are good for the tall parents. You will want at least one side drop to lift the baby in and out. If the room is big enough, a crib with double-drop sides may be nice.

A safe crib has a mattress that if firm and fits tight in the crib. There must be no missing or broken hardware. The slat should be spaced at no more than 2 3/8” apart. The corner posts should be no higher than 1/16”.
Other things to consider for your baby crib are wheels on casters and an adjustable mattress height. With wheels, the crib can be easily moved to clean around or put a sheet on the mattress. The adjustable mattress height is great to easily lay a baby down and can adjust lower for those babies who can pull up on the sides.

You can buy a baby crib at a mega-store, a local shop or even online. Both price and styles will vary with each one. Once you know exactly what crib you want for your baby, the easier it will be to shop for.
